Tiny Ion Pump Sets New Standard in Cooling Hot Computer Microchips

The device, which uses an electrical charge to create a cooling air jet right at the surface of the chip, could be critical to advancing computer technology because future chips will be smaller, more tightly packed and are likely to run hotter than today’s chips.

NVIDIA 1.0-8774 Linux Driver Released

Months after NVIDIA’s previous Linux display driver release, they have finally delivered version 1.0-8774 to the public. Of the changes in this latest driver include X.Org v7.1 support, XVideo with the Composite X extension when using X.Org v7.1, and improved interaction with newer kernels. Canon’s New Digital SLR Camera Cleans Its Own Lens

The EOS Digital Rebel XTi SLR camera employs what Canon calls the Self Cleaning Sensor Unit. The technology keeps the low pass filter in front of the camera’s sensor clean by using ultrasonic vibrations to shake dust off the surface. The vibrations are activated for one second each time the camera is turned on or off, or via a command in the menu.
