The truth is that those expensive (and sometimes exploding) batteries are little more than repackaged NiMH AA cells. Replacement batteries run over $100. The cost of 6 AAs? Under $20.

BMW was not kidding when it said it would offer a 7-Series with a hydrogen combustion engine within two years. The company is now testing actual production prototypes. The cars can run on both gasoline and hydrogen. No electric motors are involved. When running on hydrogen, there are no emissions.

Trolltech announced the Greenphone, which is thought to be the first fully reprogrammable Linux phone. CEO Haavard Nord says, “It’s kind of mind-boggling for developers, everybody usually wants to protect the software in their phone, but we want to let the developers experiment and innovate.”

New website that lets you see all the pics in the For Sale and Housing Craigslist sections all on 1 page. Similar to iPhoto you can see and scroll through many pics at once, plus iPhoto-like pic resizing. No need to click in/out of all listings to see the pics. Has all cities, search, prices and locations, quick listing preview. Find things better.

Governments seeking inexpensive technology to warn of tsunamis may be interested in a free application that monitors vibrations in the hard disks of computers in an effort to detect undersea earthquakes that cause tsunamis. The Tsunami Harddisk Detector captures vibration data and shares it with computers connected via a P2P network.
